Milton's epic poem concerning the biblical story of the fall of man with the temptation of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Printed by Samuel Simmons (1640-1687) and previously owned by Thomas Thompson.

- Has bookplate: Henry Frederick Smith, Darlington.
- Has inscriptions: Presented by Henry Frederick Smith, Darlington, to his valued friend Thomas Thompson, 1822 ; F.P. Thompson with her mother's dear love, 1886.
- Text has a lot of underscoring and some manicules.
- Inscribed on title page below author's name: died 1674, buried in Cripplegate Church.
