This letter is part of a series of courtship correspondence between Jonathan Abbatt and Mary Dilworth (later Abbatt). The Abbatt family was a Quaker family who lived in the towns and villages of Preston, Ribchester, and Garstang in Lancashire, England. The letters chronicle the courtship, discussions of faith, local events, shared sentiments, etc. Mary sometimes addressed as Polly in the letters. Please note that the months on the letters’ dates were added as numerical values rather than the month's name (e.g. 2 Mo = February). Letterhead of a dove holding an olive branch, with the caption "Blessed at the peacemakers". Jonathan informs Mary that he will visit her soon. He has been busy with his family but will return back to his business, and is looking forward to getting back into his routine after such a trying week. Includes a funeral card that states his father, Benjamin Abbatt, passed away on August 30, 1853, at 54 years old. and was laid to rest on September 1 at the Friends' Meeting House in Bolton.
