Living sea 22 (1958-02-02) : sea stars
A series of documentary kinescopes with filmed inserts dealing with the sea and sea life. Hosted by Ian McTaggart-Cowan. Dr. Cowan introduced the water vascular system which is a hydraulic system used by echinoderms such as starfishes and sea urchins to move, transport food and waste, and respire. Echinoderms move by alternately contracting muscles to force water into their tube feet to make them extend and push against the ground, and relaxing muscles to retract their feet.
