A series of idealized life trees occupy
one wall; they strike me as more
interesting as murals than as teaching
media.
A Dr Abernathy [part of name crossed out] crombie [Michael Abercrombie] is the new lecturer in
Embryology + his wife is experimenting
with teaching methods under a Rockefeller
grant. I hope to see her + see what
goes on.
In the afternoon had a short session
with P.B. [Peter Brian] Medawar Professor of Zoology here.
his main interest is in transplants in
Amphibia. Tall + personable with a most
pleasing personality he seems to have
ability + should be one of the big
names in zoology. He has a staff of
15 or so counting all noses + a teaching
program that sounds like paradise.
Each member of his faculty averages
30 lectures per year.
In the evening I met Dr D.C. Miller at
the Royal Society, also his wife + aunt - a
Miss Wilson - aunt of Tam Wilson of the
B.C. [British Columbia] Beef Cattle Growers. While at [words crossed out] Had dinner
with them at the Society for visiting Scientists
5 Old Burlington Str. [Street] W [west] 1. + afterwards saw
an interesting series of films finishing
up with a medical film on Cardiac output
