- for each province + a few assistants. The
chief duties of the game officer are 1. to organize
+ inform the sportsmen, 2. to give advice to
the sportsmen + to headquarters on local game
conditions + management matters. 3. To enforce
the law - in that order of importance.
Many of the large forest concerns are
having trouble keeping labor + to encourage
them have developed hunting facilities
on their holdings. Where such is the case
only employees may hunt + private
game wardens are hired.
The State game officers are usually recruited
from these. They are carefully selected
+ then put through a 10 months schooling
session under the tutelage of a senior
instructor assisted by a game farm
specialist + incidental help from [Professor Gosta] Notini,
[Bertil] Haglund etc [etcetera]. The course of study is
laid out on a printed circular I have.
After completing the school the man takes
2 or 3 years as an Assistant game officer with
some senior man.
There is virtually no public hunting
except of ducks. All hunters must make
their own arrangements for access to private
land. State forests are zoned + an allotted
kill assigned to each zone. There is then
bidding for the rights on each zone.
