- + King (about 6 a year). Each chooses a completely
different part of the pen to nest in. The King's
are extremely interesting. They mature at 5 years,
incubate 52 days + the young take about 6 mos [months]
to get to their 1st [first] moult. Both sexes incubate
+ transfer the egg during an elaborate + noisy ritual
during which many non mated birds gather around +
try to steal the precious egg. They have found
that only whitefish among the local species is
suitable for raising the young. All the penguins
are encouraged or forced to eat more than they
want. All those anxious to go out are
exercised every day. They are sprayed
all day during hot spells.
They have a small herd of Soway [Soay] sheep
as well as moufflon + Hemitragus. Roe do not
do well in captivity.
