- The Samson mutant appears to be a simple
recessive. It came to the fore during a low
period shortly after the hibernation of ranch silvers
by the game dept [department]. Since the fox population
increased it has lost ground proportionately.
Dr Voipio + Dr Kalela, mainly interested
in Systematics + Distribution of birds respectively
Kalela has been doing a lot of work charting
changes in the distribution of birds in
Finland in the last 100 years in response to
changes in winter + spring temperatures. His
maps show clearly that the winter birds +
those arriving in the early spring have
advanced. Characteristically summer birds such
as the Golden Oriole have not.
Dr Von Hartman. Ethologist, working chiefly
with behaviour of the Pied Flycatcher. His
experiments have been most interesting. Among
other things he has shown that feeding is in
response to demand + that young varying in
number from 1-10 elicit an increase in
number of feedings in proportion to the
number of young. However if he continually
keeps only 1 hungry young in the nest the
birds continue to feed. A calling youngster
in confinement close to the nest of satisfied young
will stimulate the bringing of food to these
young. The number of feedings remains constant
per nest [word crossed out] brood of given size no matter if
