Birds
About the only birds are
the magpie, the Lewis Woodpecker
the meadowlark + an occassional[occasional]
bluebird. The magpies nest
in the pines + firs, one nest
on this area; the Lewis Woodpecker
+ Blue birds in holes in the
dead tops of some of the
trees. (1 nest of Lewis wp. [woodpecker] in
this area). One meadowlarks
nest was found in this
area, it was in a clump
of bunch grass, + had 4 young
+ an egg, when located on.
June 1/29.
Aug [August] 10. [1929] Shot a male + female chipmunk
in dry creek bed, (analagous
to Lower cr [creek] bottom). I chased
the female to the top of a
50 ft [foot] fir tree + shot it.
It did not seem at home
in the tree and hung on as if
it was frightened + it did
