June 30. [1929] Pemberton Lake alt [altitude] 4100
Took a very large [male symbol] Porcupine
It was crossing a little marshy
area + took to a tree when
surprised. It sat on the [word crossed out] a
limb of this pine much
like a monkey. with its front
feet resting on a higher one.
When shot it gave a most
human groan + then climbed
up the tree till it fell
off. Saw 2 red squirrels.
July 1. [1929] Pemberton Lake Fine + hot alt [altitude] 4100'
while fishing in the lake at
about 5 o'clock, we heard a
crashing in the bushes + a
porcupine came down +
drank noisily. I shot the
beast, but it made off into
the bush. I followed + bagged
it. The general cast of the
coloration was gray in this
individual + yellow in the
other one.
