June 11. [1929] Mt [Mount] Paul. Bright
Life very scarce, vegetation
sparse, except in places where
Wild cherry. (Prunus nana)
+ poison ivy were abundant.
Pines + bunch grass characteristic
Groundhogs present, but
scarce, many diggings
about 3" to 8" deep + 6 in [inches] in
circ. [circumference] seen, the foot prints
in the soft earth showed that
these were made by groundhogs
And as there was no evidence
of their having been digging
for a root or bulb, they
were probably made by young
animals learning to dig.
Some of these workings were
easily 6 or 700 yds [yards] from
a burrow. Mice evidently
present.
June 12. [1929] Rose Hill Dull, high wind.
Took 1 [male symbol] squirrel + 1 [male symbol] + 1 [female symbol] chipmunk
Squirrel on open range near
