- cattle have now been excluded + biomass is down to 2600
lbs [pounds]/ sq [square] mile. During the drought there were huge concentrations
of wildebeest in the park + the lions took to preferring
them. Since the drought die off they have continued to
decrease, probably due to continual pressure by lions.
The congoni [kongoni] have increased steadily in the same period.
The lions remain constant without human interference
+ have the entire park divided into territories. There seems
to be serious + limiting interspecific strife but the details
are not known.
In wild dogs there is a heavy preponderance of [male symbol].
In the Ngorrogoro [Ngorongoro] Crater there were 6 [male symbol] + 1 [female symbol], she gave birth
to 9 [male symbol] pups + died before they matured. The pack then consisted
of 10 [male symbol]. Another pack is known to have 9 [male symbol] + 1 [female symbol].
There are about 20 cheetah in the park.
Wart hog 250 baboon 200 [+/-] The entire park
censused on the last Saturday of every month. The numbers of
wildlife change radically with season as they congregate during
prolonged dry spells. At the moment the migrating birds
have dispersed southward + out of the park.
