July 15 [1961]
On to Massett under blue skies
setting 8 more traps, with deer gut
bait. Taken in by the hospitable
hand of Pete [Peter] Henson + dogs. Dined
royally.
July 16
Drove to Q.C.C. [Queen Charlotte City] finding nothing
in traps. Camped at forestry.
Saw Don [McNaughton] + Bill McNaughton of Nighthawk
in evening + chatted for 2 1/2 hours
with them.
July 17
Prepared for [Ian McTaggart] Cowan's arrival, but as P. [Pete]
Henson expected, he won't show up 'til [until]
tomorrow.
July 18
[Ian McTaggart] Cowan arrived at 4:00 pm. He put
up in Hotel. Made plans in evening,
changing from Hippa to Hotspring because
cloudy weather made return passage
more sure to latter.
July 19: [1961]
Up at 6:00 and away by 7:45, landing
at Hotspring 35 minutes later. Fortunately
nobody at the cabin so made it our home
Once settled down, boated across to Bischoff
Islands and set 170 traps. After lunch
set 16 catch-live traps on Ramsay I [Island]. - 1 A. [Ancient] Mur-relet egg shell
Before supper collected 2 Swainson's thrushes
(#601, 602) and [female symbol] townsend's warbler (#603). After
supper set up bat net + caught a M.l. [Myotis lucifugus]
kaeni [keeni] [underlined], and 12 [illegible word crossed out] lucifugus? A bit of skin-
ning tomorrow.
July 20
Before breakfast over to Bischoff I [Island]
finding 6 adult peri. [Peromyscus] in traps. Spent
morning skinning
In p.m. [afternoon] checked 16 Chitty traps: 2
peri [Peromyscus] + 2 slugs. More A. [Ancient] Murrelet sign
here on Ramsay I [Island]. Shot [female symbol] deer.
for our provender. Eagles nest
60' up spruce on wet N [north] side Ramsay.
Set 60 traps on main Tar Islet.
