Saw 10 cow elk up the valley toward
Decoigne
[Frank] Burstrom tells me that during the
winter he frequently saw 200 elk
on the flat in front of the cabin.
Predators:- Wolf stomach full of fresh
elk meat + hair. Two section bands
last summer saw a grizzly near
Decoigne carrying an elk calf +
followed by a big band of elk.
Jasper. May 13 + 14
Saw 20 [female symbol] elk. - 10 at Lake Edith
+ 10 near Wabasso Lake.
Licks:- Saw two wet mud licks along
the trail to Buffalo Prairie
Disease:- Dissected out [female symbol] elk - record number
44, 5, 1. Only serious parasite was
lung worm.
Breeding:- Single [male symbol] fetus weighed 40 lbs [pounds] +
was practically full term.

Shot [female symbol] 2 yr [year] old was 78, 5 1/2, 24, 8 3/8, 45 at sh. [shoulder]
Not pregnant, Post. [Posterior] molars just erupting
#44-5-16. skull saved.
Census saw 34 elk 1 [male symbol] 2 calves 31 cows
these except the [male symbol] may have been seen
before.
