summer they worked back almost to the
Red Deer + to Snow Creek. The rams from
this band summered W. [west] of the Snow Cr. [Creek]
+ up the N [north] fork of the Red Deer. Jim [James]
Simpson has seen them coming in
from that distance. Another big ewe
range was round the ranch + east
of Scalp Creek. Rams came in from
as far as the Clearwater.
Kills:- In 1931 [James (Jim)] Simpson found 20 rams
dead in the first gully - all of that
winter - gully about 400 yds [yards] long.
Others were strewn in the next 3
gullies. That same year Belmore Brown
picked up many skulls here + sold
them to Luxton. Found others on
head of Panther.
We today searched all the gullies +
found evidence of 2 epidemics
in recent years. The first estimated
as 1935 or 36 was represented by
skulls + bones of 13 [number crossed out] 12 rams and 4 ewes
rams from 5 to 15 yrs [years] old. The second
heavy kill - 1941 estimated is represented
by 10 rams 3 yrs [years] to 15 yrs [years] + 4 ewes
In addition there were 2 ewes
+ a senile male of huge size head
an indeterminate period + just
two yearlings of last winters
kill.
