Today saw sheep as follows.
3 miles north of town:-
[male symbol] ad [adult] - 3 [male symbol] 4 yr [year] 2, [female symbol] ad. [adult] 10 yrl. [yearling] [female symbol] 3, lambs 4
At maligne canyon.
[male symbol] ad [adult] 5
Breeding:- some of the ewes are
apparently not yet pregnant as
the rams were displaying
considerable interest in them.
Ram approaches [female symbol] with neck out-
stretched, comes up on left side
with head inclined, away from her
ie - with chin + throat toward her
+ horns up + down + slides chin
up along her side. On one occassion [occasion]
saw a ram that got no attention
after two or three such approaches
strike at her with his fore foot
Saw no actual mating.
Food:- Recorded 100 animal minutes on
grass - primarily June grass but
some wheat grass - about 10% - wheat
grass scarce.
