- Sheep.
Aug. [August] 24/42 [1942]. Shorts Creek.
In the group of 3 sheep seen
including 3 yearling + 1, 2 year old
rams these were the most active
members of the group. 3 of them
spent 15 minutes pushing each
other about with their heads
scrambling + jumping like
school boys. One of them 3 times
attempted to a mount the ewe
with the nursing lamb and as
many times made as if to
mount one of the young rams
In the group of 2 yearling [female symbol] + 2 yearling
[male symbol] + 1 old ewe the latter was
the leader of the group. They
were alarmed, moving fast with
stops with heads up + nervousness
very apparent. The old ewe ran
often well ahead of the other
4 but these followed. It was
apparent that they followed [underlined]
mainly by sight [underlined] because when
she got out of sight they
followed a different route
+ frequently looked about
until they saw her - then
ran straight toward her.
