Mayne Isl. [Island], BC. [British Columbia] June 15, 1968.
In mid afternoon was attracted by a loud
+ continuous whistling chirp from the beach.
Then found a she otter with two kits.
She carried each in turn from the open beach
to the shelter of a large boulder. From there
she carried them to an adjacent even larger
boulder - some 8' square beneath which
she appeared to have a den. She was under
there for about 2-3 minutes then came out
the far side alone + went under still
another stone where she remained. The
two may intercommunicate.
The young were about mink size, much
darker than her. She carried by the
nape or upper shoulder with the kits
body + tail trailing between her legs.
