Dec. [December] 21/43 [1943]. Vancouver.
[male symbol] skunk captured here in late October died
this morning of icterus. Spleen very
much enlarged + somewhat marbled in
appearance. Little fat. Worms in frontal
sinuses.
This skunk ate meat, liver + kidney of
rabbit + chicken avidly but was particularly
enthusiastic about earthworms + slugs. Drank
water frequently. Defecated in a restricted
area remote from its nest.
When pulling on a cloth it showed
a remarkable ability to climb over objects
backwards, in so doing the hind feet were
reversed outwards so that the claws
gripped.
Gave no sign of discomfort of sinus
worms. Was not noticed to rub head
hold head on one side or to sneeze. One
day had a considerable haemorrhage but whether
from mouth or nose was not determined.
Testes very large - almost exactly the size of
the scent glands.
