- Journal.
Jasper July 1, 1944
Today was showery with occassional [occasional]
thunder + hail.
Drove 18 miles to Mt [Mount] Edith Cavell. For
last 5 miles or so road is through sub
alpine spruce forest, Sidehill slides
feature alder + balsam + in these
slides we found black-capped warblers
abundant + fox sparrows in small
numbers.
Some marmots + a porcupine occupied
the rock slides. Conys + mantled squirrel
abundant.
Game sign remarkably scarce. A
few signs of moose was all seen.

Packed our outfit.
Pobokton Cabin (Waterfalls) July 3, 1944
Left lower Pobokton cabin with 12 head
of horse Jim [James] Hatter, Bob James + George Camp
at 2:30 P.M. Rode the 10 +/- miles to here
in 3 1/2 hours. Trail wet in spots but
only real trouble was with the phone
line, which was down across the trail in
half a dozen places. Trail passes
through mature + 2nd [second] growth pine
forest for 5 miles or so + then comes
out onto an old burn, just before
the cabin is reached the river opens
out into willow meadows
