  • July 4 Banff. Had session with accounts at the office In afternoon drove west + climbed to top of Mt [Mount] Edith Pass. Counted sheep at 1st [first] lake, + on slope of Mt [Mount] Edith at Pass. 10 rams 20 [female symbol] 13 lambs 1 black bear. Jasper. July 5/45 [1945] Drove up from Banff - beautiful morning. Saw almost no coyote scats. Where there were a dozen near the Ice Fields Chalet a year ago there are none now. Saw 4 mule deer. 1 [male symbol] 2 [female symbol] 1 yrl [yearling] [female]. 4 goat 3 ad [adults] 1 yrl. [yearling] 2 [male symbol] moose. Timberline Sparrow abundant on summit. also 6 Clarkes Crows. Least flycatcher at mile 34 Jasper. July 6/45 [1945]. Left Jasper at 9:20 + drove to Athabasca Falls, then back to mile ten where we crossed the river + hiked straight east to the wolf den on the lower slopes of Mt [Mount] Signal. It is within 1/2 mile of the beaver lodge den. Back to the falls for supper + then a long chat with Dr Timoney up here on a collecting trip. (over)
