  • Blue Creek. Journal. May 31/44 [1944] Came down from Topaz in 3 1/2 hours. Not much of note - the snow has cleared off considerably + things like Petasites, Anemone parviflora, Arctostaphylos etc [etcetera] are in flower. Game seen:- 1 Moose not seen before. Willow Creek. (Fine day rain began at 8:30 PM) June 1/44 [1944] On way over from Blue Creek today we saw 8 moose - 1 seen before 3 elk 15 deer (6 probably seen before) No fresh wolf sign on the trail but a little coyote sign. Fresh grizzly tracks on the trail coming up willow Creek. Shale banks. June 2/44 [1944] Rain all day - Rode down from Willow Creek leaving there at 10:30 + arriving here at 3:00 As we got down into the aspen parkland below the falls Tennessee warblers + the small flycatchers with the sharp 'chibic' note + warbling vireo became evident. Game seen:- 11 moose 3 sheep. 15 elk 28 goat 9 deer.
