Willow Creek May 24/44 [1944]
Examined at close range 20 deer.
5 [male symbol], 13 [female symbol] + 2 [female symbol] fawns (12 mos. [months] old)
The bucks were 2 + 3 year olds.
All animals appeared to be in excellent
condition. They were feeding or bedded
on the flats - eating grass almost
exclusively. For bedding places they
chose the sunny side of a piece
of snow free ground at the base
of a tree.

Saw 8 deer 4 of them [female symbol] - all seen
between Mud Creek + Deer Creek + along
the lower trail where we had not
previously been
Census:- On basis of deer seen = 58 +
horses seen = 18 out of 30
18/30 = 58/x; 18x = 1740; x = 97 deer
on 18 to 20 sq [square] miles or about 5 per sq. [square] mile
Kills:- Saw 3 kills. one a fawn.
Blue Creek - May 26/44 [1944]
En route today saw 4 [female symbol]'s 2 [male symbol]'s
Three [female symbol] + 2 [male symbol]'s were at Blue Creek cabin
or vicinity. No fawns yet. A few
deer winter in here. One was killed
Enemies [underlined] here by 2 wolverine in February.
