  • Canis latrans [word crossed out] lupus [underlined]:- Jasper- May 8. Jack Hargreaves tells me that in 1914 there were two wolves around Fortress Lake + the Whirlpool. These became 7 or 8 in a couple of years time. In 1917 Many came into the Moose river area. In 1917-18 also Ray Hargreaves + a companion saw 43 wolves at one time on the Wapiti. At Devona this winter there was a group of 5 (3 gray 2 black) - one later wounded - These Bob Jones followed all the way to Willow Creek during the first week in January. There was also a single black believed by Burstrom to have been on the area since 1940 at least. This one may well be the one that has been seen on the S. [south] side of the river from time to time this winter. Another group of two works the Miette end for the most part. Jasper. May 11/45 [1945] I asked Warden Jack St Marie about wolves on his area. He reports just 5 working the Brazeau last winter. He knew of 2 elk kills but saw no sign of them molesting sheep. This band occasionally left the park to pass out toward
