  • Journal. Waterton L. [Lakes] July 11/45 [1945]. Drove up to end of Blakiston Cr. [Creek] road + then hiked to Twin Lakes. a distance of 8 miles each way from the warden cabin. Lush undergrowth very noticeable, dominant Heracleum + Rubus parviflorus in timber + semi open, in sub alpine meadows bear grass. Forest of jack pine Limber Pine, spruce + balsam, Lyall's larch at timberline. Morning bright + hot. afternoon thunder stormy settling to a steady rain. Waterton L. [Lakes] July 12/45 [1945] Fine, hot day, left village at 8:30 + drove to Cameron Lake, then back + over Akamina Pass to the Wall Lake trail Hiked into Wall Lake, shot a male goat there, prepared + examined it + returned. Photographed Wall Lake 3 exp [exposures]. [underlined] On the B.C. [British Columbia] side the undergrowth is predominantly Menziesia [underlined] with a little blueberry.. Bear grass is less abundant than on the E [East] slope. Saw 1 yearling [female symbol] moose 1 Red-backed mouse 5 [male symbol] mule deer 5 chipmunks 1 [female symbol] " " 6 squirrels 1 varying hare.
