  • Alces. Banff. May 16/45. [1945] One ad [adult] bull + 1 2 yr [year] bull at Mt[?] [mountain] lake - both in good condition Kootenay Park. May 17/45 [1945] Driving from Banff to Radium saw just 1 cow moose. Banff. May 19/45 [1945] Warden Davies on a mid-winter census at Saskatchewan Crossing counted 11 ad [adult] [male symbol] moose, 2 young males (calves) + 2 cows between Bow Summit + Mile 102. Saw tracks of as many as 12 (others?). Saskatchewan Crossing. May 23/45 [1945] Yesterday saw 2 bulls + a cow on the way up here. Today 2 bulls + 2 cows between 86 + 110 miles One cow a bit rubbed on the shoulders but otherwise OK Banff. May 23/45 [1945] James Simpson states that the moose began coming into the Mistaya + Bow valleys about 15 years ago - they apparently came over Howse Pass + other passes from the west. Were abundant at the head of the Howse for several years before they moved further into the eastern slope.
