- Journal.
Jasper. June 15/44 [1944]
Worked east today to East Gate
with special attention to Talbot Lake
area. Around the marshes the flycatchers
are very abundant. Kingbirds, Pewees,
Trails + Hammonds? are all present
in large numbers - particularly the
Pewees. Red-winged blackbirds, + swallows
also abundant. Black Terns + Common
Terns seen today also 1 Holboell Grebe
+ pair of loons. Grass + herbs in
very poor condition though this
seasons growth is good.
Beyond Pocahontas the change is
remarkable - lots of young aspen,
lillies [lilies] + other herbs abundant, roses
willows + Eleagnus luxurious.
No elk lots of deer. some moose.
Census:- 6 elk

Jasper. June 22/44 [1944]
Arrived back from Vancouver. In
evening patrolled to Henry House, shot
an aged cow elk with Hydatid cysts.
Found that a grizzly was working
the other carcase.
Game. 1 grizzly
