Beautiful day but bitterly cold
during the night and until noon.
Heavy frost at night.
Rode to head of Mc Connell Cr. [Creek] - a
distance of about 3 mi [miles] from camp.
The valley bends sharply west +
ends in a broad basin containing
a small pale green lake flanked
by rocky peaks set fairly well
back.

Left head of McConnell Cr. [Creek] at 11:30 + made
a very slow passage downstream
because of our wide pack carrying the moose head. Arrived here at
5:30 - Brilliant day but not too
hot. Red Deer passes through some
spectacular canyons between here +
