Dec. [December] 19/44 [1944]
Bird notes:-
On Old Fort saw one Clarkes Crow [Clark's nutcracker]
2 whisky Jacks, 3 mt [mountain] Chickadee + a
flock of Crossbills + 2 magpies.
At 4 mile a mixed flock of Hudsonian
chickadees + Kinglets.
Jasper, Alta. [Alberta] Dec. [December] 20, 1944
Clear, west wind reaching 40-50 mph [miles per hour].
Temp [Temperature] at 9 A.M. 0 [degree symbol]
Drove to East gate + returned via Henry
House Flats.
From mile 14 down dust is blowing
From mile 18 it is locally very bad
+ it has apparently had a marked
effect on the animal population
from Pocohontas-East. Braznet
states that there used to be quite
a heavy wintering population of
deer but in the last 7 or 8
years, since the dust became
so bad they move east into
the timber + don't return until
spring. Today there wasn't a fresh
track in the entire area between the
road + the river at the mouth [word crossed out] junction of
the Athabasca + Fiddle Creek
