  • Alces. [underlined] fighting flies. Chief flies attacking it were Pin Tails, tabanids + chrysops. in that order of abundance. Dormer Cabin Aug [August] 10, 1945. Saw 2 cow moose on plateau N. [north] of cabin - one at a mud lick. 1 cow on Stony Creek. Lots of sign of winter moose work on the balsams in places on the plateau Harrison brought in 1 of 4 antlers found in the draw just S [south] of the cabin - wt. [weight] 10 1/2 lbs [pounds]. Sulphur Spr. [Spring] Aug. [August] 13/45. [1945] Saw one large bull near the summit N. [north] of camp. Moose antler 11 lbs [pounds]. " [Sulphur Spring] Aug. [August] 14/45 [1945] Winter sign very abundant on S [south] face of ridge S [south] of camp. Right along timberline they have been browsing balsams almost exclusively. Kills:- Remains of a young adult bull dead 4 years or so in a marshy meadow S [south] of camp on hillside. Scotch Camp. [underlined] Aug. [August] 16/45 [1945] On top of Snow Creek pass saw 3 large bulls, all of them eating willow.
