  • 28 Hatsuyama Shigeru, 1897- , (medium: woodblock), started out as a painter in the Japanese Kano school style, but later turned his attention to the print. His charming style has a fanciful childlike nature. Bird and Shells, 1966, 42.5 x 55.5 cm, aggv 29 Shinagawa Takumi, 1907- , (medium: woodblock), studied under Onchi and, like his teacher, he experimented with many techniques. His early realistic work changed into a highly original abstract style. Kabukl Actor, n.d., 54 x 33.4 cm, aggv 30 Iwami Reika, 1927- , (medium: woodblock), studied under the great Onchi. She is a powerful artist noted for her avoidance of colour and for her textured greys and solid blacks. Sakuhln 60-17, 1960, 80 x 50 cm, aggv 31 Tokuriki, Tomikichiro, 1902- , (medium: woodblock), had studied ancient Korean illustrated books during his visits to Korea. He held several one-man exhibitions in Tokyo and Osaka after World War II. His prints show a great deal of expression and experimentation. Cats and Butterfly, 1967, 39.5 x 50.5 cm, aggv 32 Ono Tadashige, 1909- , (medium: woodblock), was heavily influenced by Scandinavian symbolists and German expressionists. Ono�s prints are quite similar to those of the Norwegian artist, Edvard Munch (1863-1944). His haunting prints have a slight touch of melancholy. (a) Road, 1959, 45.5 x 61 cm, aggv (b) Birds, 1960, 36.5 x 49.8 cm, aggv 33 Fujita, F., (medium: woodblock), likes to depict highly stylized birds with fanciful black lines on a subtle background. (a) Fossil Bird, 1963, 37 x 53.4 cm, aggv (b) Bird�s Dance, 1967, 57 x 35.5 cm, aggv 34 Amano Kunihiro, 1929- , (medium: woodblock), puts a great deal of expression in his prints. His prints are very textured and offer a bold mixture of vivid colours. Untitled, 1960, 41 x 57 cm, Private Collection 35 Amano Kazumi, 1927- , (medium: woodblock, silkscreen), studied under the great Munakata but his prints show no similarity to his teacher.
