- Western Burrowing Owl 378 Spiotyts [Spiliotis] cunicularia hypugaea [Athene cunicularia hypugaea] Iona Is. [Island] B.C. [British Columbia] April 15/35 [1935] When walking along sand adrift with Robert Luscher raised one of these owls which I shot. (N.E. [northeast] side of island almost opposite [illegible word] Indian Reserve) Proved to be a male with well developed organs + almost ready to breed. Stomach empty. Bird was fat. Courtenay VI [Vancouver Island] B.C. [British Columbia] Nov. [November] [space left blank] 1931. Heed[?] Pearse says he has seen one or two amongst driftwood on spit + that one had been shot near Victoria by a collector this winter
