Dec [December] 13 [1957] Wake Isl. [Island] [underlined]
In the morning photographed the surf
hermit crabs + white shore crabs.
Then had a look at Pat Kawanui's [Kawainui]
shell collection. It concentrates
on the large + showy kinds
+ has some beautiful examples.
Packed and shipped 43 pounds of
specimens. Managed to talk the
owners out of the first sea
snake record for Wake Island.
Pat [Kawainui] says they use a 1/5 [illegible word]
of lye to clean their shells.
Left for Honolulu at 7:30 PM.

Dec [December] 13 [1957] Honolulu
Woke at 6 to find #4
engine feathered but we landed
without incident only about 1/2
hr [hour] late. Registered at the
Reef Hotel in a nice room on
the 8th floor (873) at [$]1800 [zeros smaller and underlined]
meals are going to be about $7 each
per day. Facilities are excellent
but prices very high.
In the afternoon visited the
Bishop Museum. The new part
is going to be excellent + the
downstairs part of the old
section is OK but the natural
history material needs a lot
of reorganizing. The birds are
a disgrace.
In the evening window
shopped.
Dec [December] 14. [1957] Honolulu

Tinker showed us around.
