Entrance fee 25 [cent symbol] + this raises $35,000 per year Staff of 10-12. In the afternoon hired a car + drove east around the coast for 28 miles rounding Diamond Head + Koko Head, passing Rabbit Island. I walked some of the beaches but found them terribly devoid of life. A little brown algae in the surf here + some ulva, neither occurred on Wake, only a short [drawing of seaweed] bladder shaped pale yellow-green one at low tide. Shells are scarce + all of small species. Picked up representations of some 20 species of mollusks. Rain showers. Sept [September? - December] 15 [1957] Honolulu Left the hotel at 8:30 + left the airport at 10 AM bound for Vancouver. Heavy rain in the morning.
