  • Canis latrans. Banff. July 1/43 [1943] Watched a coyote stalking ground squirrels in the buffalo corral. It walked slowly forward without crouching but seemed half hearted + was unsuccessful. Walked right among the buffalo which ignored it. Sawback L. [lake] July 2/43 [1943] Fresh tracks on the pass + on the trail to Sawback L. [lake] 1 pellet 100% elk hair. (Mt [Mount] Edith - spring) Windy Cabin, Panther Cr. [creek] July 3/43 [1943] Coyote sign scarce along Cuthead + Wigmore Creeks. 2 pellets. 1 100% Callospermophilus 1 Microtus drummondi + coyote [word crossed out] beaver fur. July 4/43 [1943] 1 100% beaver. 1 100% sheep. Sulphur Springs. July 5/43 [1943] Saw a bob-tailed coyote about 2 miles below windy cabin. Food. Found where swan eaten by coyote 1 pellet 75% bearberry 25% microtus. Ya ha Tinda Ranch. July 7/43 [1943] Found a large old coyote dead. [Warden Cliff] Murphy found another dead this winter near a deer carcass. The one I found died in April with no obvious cause.
