The pass, alt. [altitude] 8100 ft [feet] is a most interesting
spot. Leucosticte, savannah, Gambel,
Golden Crowned + Fox Sparrows common.
Pipits ab. [abundant] one nest of 6 eggs found
horned larks 1 pr. [pair] 2 Ptarmigan
1 pr [pair] Bartram Sandpipers.
There had been heavy game traffic
over the pass from the Clearwater
down the Siffleur. Deer. elk + moose
tracks abundant.
In late afternoon climbed slopes
E [East] of the Siffleur + shot an old
billy goat.
There is a large moose lick about 1/2
mile above our cabin. [James (Jim)] Simpson tells
me that he saw his first moose
here in 1912 and not another one
for several years. This lick was
started 10 years ago. 7 years ago it
was small - now it is 50 ft [feet] across
Game Seen:- 12 moose
1 elk
8 mule deer
32 goat
Distance covered by horse 16 miles, on
foot 6 miles.

Worked in camp in morning. In afternoon
hiked 3 1/2-4 miles up toward the pass
Weather intermittent sunshine + snow flurries
Game seen 1 deer, 2 moose, 28 goat
not seen before (mostly seen [words illegible])
