- Odocoileus hemionus [underlined]
Jasper to Poboktan. April 21/43 [1943]
Saw just two deer - at mile 6 - a doe +
fawn. Deer do not winter as far up
as Whirlpool or the falls. But winter deer hair
in coyote droppings indicates autumn
presence.
4 more deer on Buffalo Prairie.
Jasper to Maligne. April 22/43 [1943]
Saw 14 deer - 9 of them around Lake
Edith. 3 of these were so thin their
ribs showed + one in particular
could hardly run. I would judge
that senility was responsible
possibly with parasite complications
[Warden Frank A.] Wells reports a buck that had its leg
broken + one antler injured at
Athabasca falls made its way down
to the townsite to winter.
Banff, Alta [Alberta] April 24/43 [1943]

3 at 8 mile 4 at 10 mile = 25 of which 4 were possibly[?]
juv [juvenile] among a flock of 9 - other 5 believed to be [female symbol].
Deer do not winter in Lake Louise country.
April 26/43 [1943]
Saw 3 does + 2 fawns (year old) at 7 1/2 mile
on Spray Road.
