Vermillion [l crossed out] Crossing, B.C. [British Columbia] June 23/43.[1943]
Warden Lacasse [Ulysses La Casse] drove me over here
this morning. Arrived about 10:30 AM.
Altitude 4180'.
The vegetation here is completely
different from that on the
eastern slope. The forest is
predominantly of Englemann Spruce
with quite a heavy sprinkling
of balsam + some jack pine.
Forest floor shrub cover is
dominated by Menziesia, with
grouse berry beneath + near the
edges of glades Shepherdia. In moist
openings the tall willow #1 [space left blank] is
abundant, along with some dwarf
birch. Along the roadside grouseberry
a copper leaved ericaceous plant,
viburnum, twin flowered honeysuckle
a white belled Lonicera utahensis [underlined], a ribes
a Rubus, Rosa + Spiraea densiflora
