- Antilocapra [underlined]
Banff, Alta [Alberta] April 23/43 [1943]
In conversation with N.K. Luxton
who runs the trading post at Banff.
He is a fairly well informed old chap who
is not given to exaggeration + he tells
me that in 1904-05 there were
many thousands of antelope in southern
Sask. [Saskatchewan] + Alberta. Then in the summer
of he thinks 1908 the railroad fence
was put in west from (Medicine Hat? Moose Jaw?)
+ trapped the bulk of the herd
north of the railroad. He personally
examined many hundreds of dead
antelope that winter. They had
starved to death along the railroad
fence. It was a winter of deep snow.
