Disease [underlined]
[Warden Frank] Borstrom [Burstrom] tells me of seeing blind caribou
on Little Heaven Summit, in the Tonquin
+ on Cavell road over a period of years
The latter was in 1938 or so + he + [Warden Frank] Bryant
caught it. There was an opaque film
over the eyes + it was apparently totally
blind.
Little Heaven Summit. Aug. [August] 16/43 [1943]
A shed antler just above the cabin.
[Frank] Borstrom [Burstrom] says that there are usually
4 or 5 around the lake 5 miles W. [west] of
Willow Creek.
" [Little Heaven Summit] Aug [August] 17/43 [1943]
Saw tracks (old) a shed antler + droppings
on ridge east of here - Also saw two
caribou? on skyline at head of Deer Pass
Blue Creek - Aug [August] 18/43 [1943]
Saw a kill apparently of a young
animal. Appeared to be a wolf job.
Topaz Shelter, Blue Cr [creek] - Aug [August] 19/43 [1943]
One female on flat near cabin.
Woods here full of winter droppings
[Warden Bob] Jones says some winter but in
the main it is a spring + fall
travel route.
Found one shed antler.
" " [Topaz Shelter, Blue Creek] Aug. [August] 20/43 [1943]
Saw [female symbol] and yearling bedded on hilltop
of 7000' [feet] in mid morning. Both ran off
at high speed. Were not alarmed by us
