Census:- This morning 4 [female symbol]'s + 3 kids came past
camp.
Lick:- a light earth lick about 500 yards
SE [southeast] of camp on sidehill. Not heavily
used but the local goat population is
not large. Took earth sample.
Specimens:- measurements:-
Ad. [adult] [female symbol]. 1412, 160, 322, ear 115, girth 1060, shoulder ht [height] 880
kid [female symbol]. 920, 100, 250, girth 700, shoulder height 580.
wt [weight] about 40 lbs [pounds]
Pelage:- Old [female symbol] had a little matted hair on sides
of back ridge but new coat well grown
Glands:- horn glands of juv. [juvenile] indicated by a small
hairless, partially cornified patch. Those of [female symbol]
large, active + studded with pits that may
be the openings of ducts.
Anatomy:- Mammal 4 all functional. Abomasum
very large in comparison with rest of stomach.
Food. :- ad. [adult] 70% grass + sedge
20% willow (dwarf + large leaf (spec. [species]).
10% unid. [unidentified] veg. [vegetation] including Equisetum
juv. [juvenile] 45% dwarf willow
45% grass
10% unid. [unidentified] veg. [vegetation] including Equisetum
Parasites:-
juv. [juvenile] a light infest. [infestation] of stomach worm.
ad. [adult] Very heavy stomach worm infestation - approx [approximately]
7000-10,000 indiv. [individuals] Some deep beneath mucosa
others free in contents of abomasum.
