  • Oreamnos [underlined] Enemies [underlined] [James (Jim)] Simpson tells me that a friend of his Sid [Sidney Joseph] Unwin, prior to the last war, was hunting 2 goat down at Kananaskis. A grizzly beat him to it + killed a young billy. Unwin shot the bear but not before it had eaten one quarter. [James (Jim)] Simpson himself watched a goat [word crossed out] grizzly with 2 young cubs stalking a goat at lake O Hara [O'Hara] - he interrupted the beast. Fighting:- [James (Jim)] Simpson tells me he has seen goats fighting. They attempt to push the opponent off balance + then to hook him in the flank. He has shot several goats with the abdomen punctured, intestines holed - peritonitis present. Especially mentioned head of Siffleur Bryant Creek, Alta. [Alberta] June 13, 1943 Today saw 3 large goat (billys?) on Mt [mount] Buller. 9 goat including 1 yearling on the S.E. [southeast] face of Mt [mount] Fortune, + 3 large billies on the S. [south] slope of Mt [mount] Currie by the Whiteman Pass trail + 4 goats on the W [west] facing slope of Cone Mt. [mountain] high up on the grassy slope just below the cliffs. Food:- Apparently the winter food is in large part balsam.
