In the evening went
fishing down the river
but did not get much
Just at dusk the bats appeared
+ I knocked down 5 recovering
3. Mr [Kenneth] Racey hit 4 or 5 +
recovered 4.
Aug [August] 4 [1931]. Went over to the Spruce
woods before breakfast
with Mr + Mrs [Kenneth] Racey [Kathleen Eileen Louise Stewart]. The traps
+ snares held a squirrel
a Dusky Shrew, a juvenile red
backed mouse 3 adult Rabbits
+ one very young rabbit
The mouse traps on the point
held a shrew + two juvenile [word crossed out]
voles - of the small variety.
On the way back we found a
grebes nest of some sort, built
of water lilly [lily] leaves + about 2 ft. [feet] in
diam. [diameter] contained 6 eggs. The
bird had covered these when she
left the nest.
Saw 5 Phalarope (Wilson [word crossed out] Northern) +
took 2. saw a Sharp tailed grouse
Aug [August] 5 [1931]. Raining hard all night
+ all day. Did not look at
my traps. Stewart [Racey] took
a small [female symbol] skunk + a water
shrew + Alan [Racey] another water
shrew.
Spent the day cleaning up
