For Whistlers. We decided to spend the
night up there on on the chance of its
stopping raining the next morning
so sent [Ed] Torkko down for some more
grub + spent the night in front of
a fire in the rain.
June 22 [1931]. At 3 AM oclock it stopped raining
and stayed fine till [until] almost
noon. At 7 we went along the
mountainside to the grass slides
+ shot 6 Whistlers. T
The whistlers taken consisted of 2 ad. [adult] [female symbol]
1 ad. [adult] [male symbol] 1 juv [juvenile] [female symbol] + 2 juv. [juvenile] [male symbol] all were
very dark especially the adult animals.
which were almost black on the neck.
The whistlers seemed to be living
on the roots of lupin, the leaves +
roots of an Alpine dandelion + the leaves
of the big white flowered parsnip.
Deer [underlined] 3 large bucks were seen right
on the summit of the mt. [mountain] at 4200'
later on 2 does were observed feeding
on the rockslide about half way down
to the Lake.
Clarkes Crow [underlined]. All 3 of us observed
3 Clarkes crows [underlined] at close range
flying one head. No possible
doubt as to their identity
We skinned the whistlers [marmots] + hustled
down the mt. [mountain] arriving at the
cabin at 5:30
