  • Fox Sparrow [underlined]: 1 seen singing in tree in Tofino. Song Sparrow [underlined] - common. Flicker [underlined] - not common, a few seen Ruffed Grouse - 2 seen along road. Pigmy [pygmy] owl - 1 seen in the afternoon of the 3rd 1 1/2 m [mile] E [east] of Tofino on the road. Pileolated Warbler [underlined]:- quite common 4-5 [noted inserted later] Lutescent " [underlined]: " " Rufous Hummingbirds [underlined]:- very abundant. Hairy Woodpecker [underlined]:- one seen an [and] wounded on afternoon of 3rd. A few Raccoon tracks seen along the beach and around springs, two lots of mink tracks seen. Deer evidently very common. Peromyscus common in the house. Winter wren: very common NorthW. [Northwestern] Robin :- common Hermit thrush:- not common but seen in thick woods along the shore E [east] of Tofino. May 5 [1931] A.M. Dragged boat out to the edge of the water then had breakfast and went out in boat. Rowed against a stiff SE. [southeast] Wind to the first channel. Left the boat and walked over and [word crossed out] to and around the two small Islands in the bay. Coon [raccoon] tracks numerous, Took a large Savannah Sparrow.
