Pine Siskins 12
July 23. 1937. Shot an ad [adult] [female symbol] Hare on
last night, was on road just below second
cabin #167. Contained 5 embryos 75% dev [developed].
Today traps produced 3 Perries [Peromyscus], 1 Mordax
2 Clethrionomys. one Perry [Peromyscus] + 1 cleth. [clethrionomys] too badly
damaged by ants to be preservable. The
ants, both the large black + the red headed, cause us a great deal of trouble, + apparently
work both day + night. Unless specimens are
picked up shortly after being caught they
are often damaged beyond repair. In
evening went bat hunting + secured
a [male symbol] alascensis [word crossed out] longicrus. Very few bats about here
+ they are difficult to collect.
July 24. 1937.
Today the traps held more than
usual. Seven Perries [Peromyscus], 2 Flying squirrels,
1 Zapus, 2 Mordax, 1 Eutamias, 1 Sciurus,
1 Clethrionomys. + one Mustela f. [frenata] orabasa.
On a mouse trap under the bridge
I found a large curiously coloured
slug eating the bait + this was preserved
Spec [specimen] no. [number] 176.
Yesterday the foot of an ad. [adult] flying
squirrel was found in a no [number] 1 trap + this
a.m. [morning] a juv [juvenile] [male symbol] was taken in a rat trap set on
a fallen cedar log, trap being baited with Kipper
During late afternoon when rebaiting traps found
