July 20/37:
Vaux Swift. 5 p.m. 1
above camp.
July 21. 1937. 3400 ft.,
Last evening at dusk shot a young rabbit
half mile below cabin. # 154. Saw three bats.
Cowan shot a flying squirrel + a [female symbol] Franklin
Grouse near mile 9. -
This am [morning] traps produced four
Perris [Peromyscus] 1/[female symbol] ad [adult] 2/[male symbol] ad [adult] + 1/[male symbol] juv [juvenile]. The female a
very large animal, measured 202 m.m. [millimetres],
was taken inside log down the gully behind
cabin. Also took 1/[female symbol] clethrionomys + a squirrel.
Shot a singing male white-winged
Crossbill. It was perched on top of tall
live spruce by roadside.
Skinning all morning + drove
down to Revelstoke for mail, hair
cut + lunch with Mrs Wm [William] Moore. The
barber Jack Green told us that
Caribou, goat, Grizzly Bear + some
moose were plentiful up the
Jordan River. That a fire trail
runs up that river + crossed over
a bridge about 5 mi [miles] up + follows
the ridge low down along the Columbia River
+ then swings up over the ridge. Says
hikers have occasionally crossed to
Taft this way. Also that there is
excellent moose hunting just
