July 8/37 [1937]. Bright hot day. Picked up
mouse traps + set out 2 no [number] 1 for Callies [Callospermophilus]
on easterly rock slide where I saw
another of these animals. It was very
wild + hid as soon as I moved, it was
about 10 yds [yards] above where the [male symbol] was taken
yesterday morning.
During morning hunted rock slides
to west + north + over green hill to north
Took two [female symbol] marmots, a cony + two Columbian
chickadees. Skinned during p.m. [afternoon]
+ made up a zapus taken in no [number] 1 set
for arvicoloides by side of stream
Saw runways of synaptomys + a
couple of empty nests (of sedges) in grassy
meadows below Eva trail.
Examined very large Rock Rabbit hay
pile under large rock in northerly rock slide
This composed of 98% sedges + balsam
spruce tips.
Saw 5 marmots, one a very large dark
animal which I took to be a male
+ 2 females in same slide were
much paler.
