+ droppings of Phenacomys in a large thick,
damp patch of fine sedge (grass). Then
we set about 30 traps. Took an
[female symbol] Alaska 3 toed woodpecker + a bdg [breeding]
[female symbol] Pine Grosbeak. This last with plumage
similar to female. - Only four
marmots seen today - Ian [McTaggart Cowan] pointed
out a tree, below rock slide, in which
a pair of mountain bluebirds are
nesting. This makes the third pair
of these birds I have seen about here.
Mr [W.M.] Moore, Park Ranger + daughter
Betty [Moore] visited today + had lunch
with us. Mr Moore mentioned that
a band of Caribou range from
Mt [Mount] Revelstoke to 18 mile creek.
This morning Ian [McTaggart Cowan] saw old caribou
signs 1/2 mi [mile] north west of camp. This band
winters down as low as 14 mile on
Mt. [Mount] Revelstoke. Hail storm in afternoon. Stones as lg [large] as lg [large] peas.
July 5/37 [1937] - Moved traps to easterly + southerly
slope of Mt [Mount] Revelstoke + set out a lot more
steel + mouse traps + brought the end of this
trap line around mountain to hill above cabin.
Today traps contained 3 Perries [Peromyscus], 2 Red-backs + a
[female symbol] chipmunk. When setting traps for arvicoloides
in meadow by stream saw one of these animals swimming
+ moving in the water, watched it for a short time + then
collected it. - Rain last night + off + on today
also hail in morning.
