- May 20/62 [1962] Copenhagen
Walked from here to
Klampenborg in about 2 1/2 hours
+ spent 3 hours studying the
deer there.
Fallow deer.
1151 total seen
4.1% white
13% black
The main difference easily detected
between normal + black is that
the latter are devoid of the white
rump patch, so that from the
rear they present a solid black
appearance.
Saw 8-10 spike bucks with
antler on + there may have been
plenty more as I lacked field glasses.
Only 2 two year olds still had
antlers. The larger bucks all
had antlers 2-3 inches long.
No young of the year.
Cervus elaphus [underlined]:-
Saw 20 stags + about 50 hinds
two of which were white
The big stags had antlers
already beyond the big tine.
Probably 18"+ [inches] in the largest.
No calves.
Not much new in the bird
line but did see very first
European tree creepers - 2 of them.
Found a blackbirds nest
with 4 eggs, very much like
what I remember of a brewers [blackbird]
in color. Lots of jackdaw
+ starlings foraging in the grass.
Had dinner at the Royal
hotel - 32Kr [Danish Krone, currency] - a good place
not to stay - two [too] many extras.
