- Flesh Footed Shearwaters July 8. 1939.
Took what Dr [Ian McTaggart] Cowan thinks is a
flesh footed shearwater today on the
Goose I. [Island] Banks. personally not sure of
the Identification but [illegible word crossed out] strongly
inclined to concur with Dr [Ian McTaggart] Cowan.
Several other shearwaters similar to this one
were seen but unfortunately not collected
July 18. 1939.
At Goose Islands [words crossed out] We found the Flesh
Footed Shearwater to be the most common
Shearwater on the Goose I [Island] Banks today
and collected good series. These birds
are quite easy to see [word crossed out] distinguish from
the Sooty Shearwater by the heavier
flight and the conspicuously light
colored bill. Shearwaters were
on the whole quite scarce on the
bank to-day, the usual large flocks
of sootys not being present.
